Starving

76 words posted on May 22, 2007 | Food

With all of the food research I’ve been doing, I’m to the point of starving. I think I’m going to scramble up some egg whites. It’s about 100 calories but that really makes no sense to me. Egg Whites are 17 calories, when you scramble them you only add a dash of low-fat milk, how does that little dash make so much of a difference? If anyone can explain it to me, please let me know!

I don’t think a dash of low fat milk makes any difference at all! Don’t worry about it, really.

(By the way, thanks for the comment.)

But seriously though, when you scramble eggs, do you normally use something like a little butter or a drop of oil to lubricate the pan you’re frying it in? Maybe that’s where the extra stuff comes from, seeing that cooking sprays and and stuff (even the low fat ones) are simply that - fat.

I’ve noticed that you said you eat about 800 calories per day. I’m hesitant to say anything becasue I’ve been told this too and I just shrugged it off, but I’m pretty sure you’re eating far too little. That is probably what is causing you to feel sluggish. I doubt any person should be consuming less than 1000 calories per day. I learned this formula on a site I do research on and while it’s probably not scientific and exact, if you multiply your weight by 15 you will get your approximate maintenance calories, that is, the amount of calories you should be eating each day to maintain the same weight. I modified it a bit and multiplied my goal weight (180) instead of my current weight (235) and got 2700 calories. This seems reasonable to me because I’m 6′ tall and I’m male. They say you can lose weight at 500 calories less than your maintenance, but I was border line obeese so I cut them by 1000 and am eating around 1700 calories per day. It sounds like a lot, but I’m eating wholesome natural foods and some of them (peanut butter for expample) are very calorie dense. I’m no doctor for sure, so what I’m saying may or may not be good information, I’m just letting you know that you may want to try experimenting a little bit with your diet and see what makes you feel the best. I can honestly say with the system I’m working now, I feel physically the best since I can remember. Keep at it :D

i have no idea…but i just wanted to congratulate you on 13 lbs lost!!! woo hoo!!! your starting weight is similiar to my start weight (well, aactually i am heavier…sigh) considering i just realized that i may need to lose MORE than 100 lbs…i am seeking support…hopped here from somewhere…can’t remember….but i will keep you in my thoughts!

Be Blessed!

I use egg whites in a non stick pay, with 0 calorie butter flavored spray and a dash of milk - I often add veggies so its much more filling and adds very little calories.

I have to keep my calories around 800 too in order to loose, though I have been a bit closer to 1,000 the past few weeks - but I’ve been exercising now too (about 30 minutes a day 5 to 6 times a week).

When I’m really hungry I have a measured amount of air popped popcorn - it’s saved many times from starving. After almost a year of dieting I need it less then I did before.

For protein I use Extend bars - the best I’ve found (only 150 calories, 11 grams of protein) specially designed to keep blood sugar levels even for 9 hours - helps control hunger a lot.
