Alzeimer’s Disease

My grandmother has Alzheimer’s disease. It’s hard when I talk to her, sometimes she won’t even know who I am, other times she won’t know what year it is. Every year, someone in my family sponsors a walker from the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk so that we can hopefully one day find a cure for this disease. We’ve been doing it since it started up in 1989. We’ve donated about $9000 out of the $225 million that the walk has raised total since starting. And this year will not be any different.

I encourage everyone out there to help with the Memory Walk. If you really want to help out, then sign up as a Team Captain. Spots are going fast so you will want to sign up early. I might sign up as a Team Captain to help other people who are going through the same things that I am. I have even been trying to get Sean to donate some of his time and money too, because his grandmother had Alzheimer’s disease as well. He doesn’t know yet, but when I told his aunt about it, she climbed right on board and is donating some money herself due to the fact that her father is becoming forgetful in his old age. Apparently she didn’t know where she was for a week because he didn’t pick up the phone whenever anyone called.

Please find it in your hearts to donate your time or money to this cause, it isn’t just the people who have it that suffer, it is the families too.

Casino

We went to the casino the other night, it didn’t turn out as we had hoped. I’m down $80 and Sean is down $60. Oh well at least we had fun, after we left we went out to breakfast (it was 6AM). While the diner down here doesn’t have the best dinner, it does have okay breakfast.  Nothing as good as IHOP though, too bad they aren’t open at 6AM, otherwise we would have went there.

Movies: Halloween

PPPI like pushing new movies, and my absolute favorite genre of movies has always been horror/action so when you hear that Rob Zombie is releasing another one, you tend to pounce on it. I’ve always loved his work, visually he’s one of the most interesting people in the world. And oddly enough I was listening to him on my iPod when I came across this article.

So his new one is Halloween, the movie looks pretty cool and based on what I’ve read-up on it so far, it’s getting some pretty rave reviews as well. I think my all-time favorite movie is the Exorcist, I’m sure that’s a pretty common response but I found that movie very amusing, because I’m not like the scared little girl who thinks the ghosts are going to pop through the screen and get me. I know when something is fake, it’s just how it’s done that makes a damn good movie and based on the movies that I’ve seen from Rob Zombie in the past, lord this one is going to be GOOD. I have Grindhouse on my top 10 movies of all time and I don’t care what kind of reviews that one god from scared pansies either!

I have the trailer if you’re interested:

So if you’re at all interested in seeing Halloween, the movie then check your local listings, should be in theaters soon.

Thinking of buying some exercise equipment

Recently, Sean and I purchased a Wii and before I even knew what hit me I was up and moving around in ways that I hadn’t in quite some time. By default the console comes with 5 sports games, I spent most of last night Boxing to work off a lot of aggression and apparently 2 more pounds as of this mornings weigh in. It’s been almost a week since my last weigh in but something today told me that I needed to hop on the scale and validate that feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Knowing full well that the Wii can’t give me everything I was looking for, I’ve been poking around the net looking for exercise equipment and came across fitness-superstore.co.uk. They have everything from rowing machines to elliptical cross trainers and exercise bikes. Everything is reasonably priced, based on a trusty currency converter so I could see what the US based prices would be. I would love to own an exercise bike though, considering the very long walks I’m sure my legs can handle an hour or so a day on a bike.

For a while now I’ve been waiting on the main office of the community to get the club house up and running. They’ve been telling the residents for the last two years that they were going to have both the gym and the pool setup by early 2007. That came and went. The club house is standing, the hole for the pool has been dug out and even some parts of it are completed as far as laying cement is concerned but now there’s a notice telling us that we can take our community card and go to their sibling community just to use their pool. However, we’re still unable to get into the club house to use the equipment. It’s not even in there at the moment though so that makes the building completely useless to us.

This is why Sean and I spend so much time walking because joining a gym in a resort community is just priced way too high for us and at the same time, there aren’t any major fitness chains surrounding us either. I wouldn’t mind Bally’s or even Jenny Craig for that matter. Both of those chains have a pretty major following, minus the fact that they’re rather pricey as well.

But, I’ve been doing very well with just food portions and exercise. I am considering purchasing an exercise bike though, I just need to figure out where exactly I plan on placing it. The house is loaded up enough as is. I know I’m marrying him and all but would it be wrong to get rid of his side of the office so I could put in a small gym there? heh.

Coming Soon - SUPERBAD!

There’s a new moving out called Superbad that I’ve seen A LOT of commercials for. Oddly enough I logged online today to find out that Youtube is going to be taken over by this movie today. There are exclusive clips up on superbadclips.com. And for those who get there quick enough on 8/1 there are 5 Superbad videos going up on YouTube. And there’s also the official Superbad website where you can download wallpaper and buddy icons.

This movie looks like it’s going to have a serious cult following considering they’re hitting up youtube the way they are. It looks pretty funny, I’ve seen quite a few clips on it and the basis of it kind of has an American Pie feel to me, I think they were just starting with a younger crowd considering there’s really nothing good coming out of the AP world these days. I do wish them serious luck with this movie.

Sean and I have considered going to see it, but I think that’s because it runs on Cartoon Network quite a bit during Adult Swim. I also saw it a lot on Comedy Central as well. If I don’t actually get around to seeing it in a theater, I know that since cable will be upgraded soon so HBO is the way to go, heh.
